Self-Control in Context: A Summer School for Early-Career Scholars
The Self-Control in Context project calls for applications to a one-week seminar in Bogotá at Universidad Externado de Colombia from July 31st – August 4th, 2023.
Call for Participants
Interested in researching character and decision-making in Latin America?
Join us in Bogotá, Colombia, for a research seminar aimed at building a community of early-career researchers doing cutting-edge work in decision-making and the virtues in Latin America. You will meet other like-minded early-career researchers in philosophy, psychology, policy, and related fields, receive training in cutting-edge interdisciplinary tools, form new international collaborations, and design your own project to conduct original research. This fully-funded one-week experience will help you produce valuable research and build lasting relationships. The most promising projects will receive seed funding to get started.
The seminar
As a seminar participant, you will reside in Bogotá and are expected to have full-time dedication during the days of the seminar, having prepared seminar readings in advance. Your lodging and multiple meals will be covered by the Project. Travel costs are not covered, but each participant will receive a stipend of USD $1.500 (minus applicable taxes and fees). You will also be eligible to participate in a competition for Startup Awards of up to USD $8.000, given to the most promising research projects developed during the seminar.
By participating in this seminar, you will learn cutting-edge work on motivation, rationality, and self-control, ecological approaches to decision-making, as well as innovative research methodologies to study these topics with high ecological validity including experience sampling, experimental philosophy, and open science practices. You will put these tools into practice by creating and pitching your own collaborative research project.
How to apply
Applicants must be graduate (Masters or PhD) students or early-career scholars (having received their PhD no earlier than July 2017) in Philosophy, Psychology, Policy, or related disciplines.
